Overview
The Department of Management in the College of Business at Northern Illinois University invites applications for an open-rank position in the fields of entrepreneurship and strategic management. The candidate’s education and experience will determine whether they are appointed to a tenure-track or tenured position (at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) or a non-tenure-track faculty position. Candidates will be asked to indicate in their application which type and rank position they see as aligned with their background and accomplishments. The search committee will assess candidates’ qualifications and ultimately determine the appropriate appointment type and rank.
Northern Illinois University is a comprehensive research university with about 16,000 students. The main campus is located in DeKalb, Illinois, approximately 65 miles west of downtown Chicago. Recognized by Poets and Quants as one of the top 100 undergraduate business schools in the U.S. and No. 2 in Illinois, the NIU College of Business is AACSB accredited in both business and accounting. The college currently serves approximately 2,800 students in our undergraduate and graduate programs.
On campus, the Department of Management offers undergraduate degrees in Human Resource Management, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Business Administration. In addition, we teach extensively in graduate programs located in DeKalb, Chicago, Schaumburg, Naperville, and a number of international locations. Our eleven tenure-track and three full-time non-tenure-track faculty members include a Presidential Research Professor, two University-level teaching award winners, many College-level teaching award winners, and numerous thought leaders in their fields. Position Summary
Primary teaching responsibilities will be in entrepreneurship (Creativity, Business Model Development, Social Entrepreneurship, etc.) and strategic management at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels. In addition to teaching, tenure-track and tenured faculty will be expected to publish high-quality and impactful research, provide service to the Department, College, and University, and engage with the broader business community. The expectations for a non-tenure-track faculty member are similar, without the requirement for research.
Requirements
Minimum Required Qualifications
Doctorate in a related field from an AACSB-accredited institution by appointment date (tenure-track) or Master’s/Doctorate in a related field with significant practitioner experience (non-tenure-track)
Demonstrated expertise in entrepreneurship and strategic management through education and experience
Evidence of effective teaching, scholarly achievement or scholarly potential, collaboration, and engagement with practitioners
Associate and Full Professor candidates must possess a record of teaching and scholarship commensurate with rank
