- Camp Co-Director
Description
Awbury is seeking a Co-Director to develop curriculum for Awbury Adventures Summer Camp for 6-14-year-olds and to support the Camp Director. The Co-Director will work with the Camp Director to develop programming for both the Arboretum side and the Farm side of Awbury, will help interview and hire Lead Counselors and Assistant Counselors, and will serve as a resource to the camp as a whole, finding substitutes when counselors or CITs call in sick. The Co-Director will also serve as a Lead Counselor for at least 3 camp sessions.
Requirements
Experience: Preferably 25 or older. A minimum of three years of experience working with children in a school or preschool setting as the primary teacher or in community-based programming for youth as the lead instructor. A background in urban farming or horticulture is desirable.
Skills: Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build strong relationships with children and teens; ability to lead and to improvise if necessary; ability to create and implement a syllabus that is both educational and fun; ability to mentor teens and delegate responsibilities; must be collaborative and team oriented; must enjoy nature and the outdoors; must enjoy gardening and farm animals (goats and chickens).
Abilities: Must be able to walk and stand for up to 3 hours, kneel, teach outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, humidity, rain, etc.),
Other: Must have commitment to racial, economic, environmental and social justice; respect for people of all cultures, backgrounds, abilities and gender identities; a passion for working with youth.
Requirements: Must be able to pass all background checks as required by Awbury Arboretum.
