Description
The New Hampshire Democratic Party is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Communications Director to lead our communications efforts for the 2026 election cycle. The Communications Director is responsible for managing the overall messaging strategy for the New Hampshire Democratic Party and directing the day-to-day management of the communications department. The ideal candidate should be skilled in managing multiple and competing priorities simultaneously and have the ability to maintain a sharp focus on details. They must be creative, dynamic, relentless, and unafraid to take risks.
The Communications Director will report to the Executive Director, work closely with the NHDP Chair, and collaborate with the entire NHDP team to set strategic communications goals and help raise the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s public profile. This position is based in Concord, New Hampshire.
Requirements
Position Responsibilities Include:
- Working with Party leadership and staff to develop and implement an aggressive communications strategy for the Party, including ensuring message continuity across all communications platforms;
- Developing and maintaining relationships with allied media partners and members of the press;
- Working with local stakeholders on development and distribution of a strong coordinated message;
- Efficiently manage communications department staff;
- Drafting press releases and other media outreach materials;
- Facilitating press conferences and other earned media events;
- Managing a robust social media program;
- Compiling briefings for elected officials, other staff members, and members of the press;
- Preparing talking points and developing rapid responses via various platforms;
- Be a resource for Democratic County and Town Committees, elected officials and candidates on communications strategy, providing trainings to committees yearly and quarterly as needed;
- Must successfully work with our elected officials and candidates; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- A passion for social justice and a commitment to Democratic Party values;
- Minimum of 3 cycles of prior political communications experience—experience on a congressional or statewide political campaign or for a state party or national committee preferred;
- Must be creative, possess exceptional writing skills, and experience managing all aspects of digital, social media, and traditional communications mediums;
- Strong on-the-record expertise and experience with managing communications staff preferred;
- Discretion and ability to work independently;
- Responsive and positive team player who enjoys new challenges;
- Excellent personal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships;
- Great verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills, including attention to detail;
- Proven experience managing multiple complex projects and finishing tasks ahead of aggressive deadlines;
- Desire to ask questions, receive constructive feedback, and grow as a professional;
- Commitment to equity and inclusion in working with staff and other stakeholders; and
- Be self-motivated and willing to work long hours, including nights and weekends, in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment and travel extensively throughout New Hampshire as needed.
