Description
OverviewMaryland Golf and Country Club is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Instruction & Player Development to lead all aspects of our golf instruction programs. This role is central to enhancing member satisfaction, improving player performance, and fostering greater engagement with the game of golf.
The Director will be responsible for creating and managing instructional programs, teaching individual and group lessons, and developing player improvement pathways for golfers of all skill levels. A key focus will be on growing participation among juniors, women, and beginners while ensuring exceptional service, innovative teaching techniques, and alignment with the club's culture and goals. Director of Instruction will report to the Director of Golf.
Experience Required
Minimum Qualifications
- PGA or LPGA Class A Professional in good standing.
- Minimum 5 years of teaching experience, preferably in a private club environment.
- Strong player development background with proven success in growing instructional programs.
- Proficiency with modern golf technologies (TrackMan, Foresight, video analysis software, etc.).
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by club operations.
Essential Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Coaching
- Provide individual, group, and on-course lessons to members and guests of all ages and abilities.
- Develop structured player development programs, including beginner clinics, junior golf academies, women's programs, and advanced player coaching.
- Utilize modern technology (launch monitors, video analysis, club fitting tools) to deliver high-quality instruction.
Program Development
- Design and promote lesson packages and seasonal programs to increase participation and revenue.
- Create engaging junior golf programs, including summer camps, leagues, and player development pathways.
- Host instructional clinics, member events, and skill-building sessions.
Club Fitting & Equipment
- Conduct professional club fittings using launch monitors and fitting systems.
- Assist the Pro Shop team with equipment recommendations and sales when applicable.
- Perform basic club repair services.
Player Engagement & Development
- Implement long-term improvement plans for players, tracking progress and performance metrics.
- Promote the game of golf to members, focusing on fun, inclusive, and developmental opportunities.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Work closely with the golf staff to align instruction programs with overall golf operations.
- Assist with tournament preparation, scoring, and player services when needed.
Business & Administration
- Manage lesson booking schedules, billing, and accurate record-keeping through the Pro Shop.
- Prepare periodic reports on lesson revenue, participation, and program success.
- Collaborate with the General Manager and Director of Golf on marketing efforts to promote instructional services.
