Description
The Community Oncology Alliance (COA), a national cancer advocacy organization, is seeking a director to lead its state policy and advocacy efforts.
This individual will serve as COA’s lead on state-level legislation, regulation, and policy impacting community oncology practices and patients. The role is responsible for end-to-end ownership of COA’s state policy function, including monitoring, analysis, strategy development, and direct advocacy engagement.
This is a highly visible, externally facing role that will work closely with COA leadership, member practices, state oncology societies, and key stakeholders to advance COA’s state policy priorities nationwide.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Lead COA’s state policy function, including legislative and regulatory monitoring, analysis, and engagement in select priority states.
- Track and assess state-level legislation and regulatory activity relevant to community oncology and provide clear, actionable recommendations to COA leadership and members.
- Develop and execute advocacy strategies, including drafting comment letters, supporting testimony, coordinating with member practices, and engaging directly with policymakers and regulators.
- Serve as COA’s primary point of contact for state policy matters with external stakeholders, including state oncology societies, associations, government affairs teams, and other partners.
- Support and activate COA member practices in state advocacy efforts through education, tools, and direct engagement.
- Lead COA’s state policy programming, including biannual State Legislative Leadership training programs, webinars, and policy briefings.
- Prepare and deliver written and verbal communications, including policy updates, presentations, and reports.
- Manage relationships with external consultants and partners supporting state policy efforts, including contract lobbyists and policy advisors.
- Develop and maintain systems and materials to support consistent and effective tracking, analysis, and engagement across states.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in health care policy, with preference for oncology, pharmacy, or reimbursement policy.
- Strong understanding of state legislative and regulatory processes and the health care policy landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex policy workstreams from tracking and analysis through advocacy and execution.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting policy materials and presenting to external audiences.
- Proven ability to build and manage relationships with stakeholders across government, provider, and industry settings.
- Highly self-directed, disciplined professional who can operate effectively in a remote and fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Location & Travel
- Remote position within a largely virtual organization.
- Approximately 30% travel, including COA meetings, conferences, and state-level engagement.
