The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at Colorado Mesa University invites applications for two full-time, 12-month, open-rank tenure-track core faculty positions beginning July 1. We are seeking collaborative faculty who are excited to help shape and grow a developing program, contribute to student success, and advance scholarship within a supportive academic environment. Applicants with expertise in basic sciences or clinical physical therapy practice areas are encouraged to apply.
The DPT Program at Colorado Mesa University has enrolled three cohorts and will graduate its first class in May. The program currently holds Candidate for Accreditation status and will be considered for Initial Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) at the upcoming April meeting.
The program admits one cohort annually (24 students), allowing for strong faculty-student engagement and mentorship. The program is located in the St. Mary’s Medical Education Center, an interdisciplinary health sciences facility on the main campus in Grand Junction. The facility houses graduate programs in Occupational Therapy and Physician Assistant Studies, creating robust opportunities for interprofessional education and collaboration. Colorado Mesa University also offers graduate programs in Athletic Training, Nursing, and Social Work, contributing to a growing health sciences community.
We are seeking faculty with expertise in one or more of the following areas.
Basic Science Faculty
- Neuroscience
- Histology
- Physiology
- Human cadaver laboratory instruction
Clinical Faculty
- Pediatrics
- Research methods and statistics
- Therapeutic modalities
- Professional practice / PT management
- Interprofessional education seminar
Applicants with expertise in other areas of the DPT curriculum are also encouraged to apply, including:
- Cardiopulmonary physical therapy
- Differential diagnosis
- Therapeutic exercise
- Pathology for physical therapy
The program values flexibility in teaching assignments and welcomes applicants whose expertise complements existing faculty strengths.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Collaborating with the Program Director and Curriculum Committee to coordinate assigned curricular content and maintain compliance with CAPTE standards.
Teaching didactic and laboratory courses within the DPT curriculum.
Developing and maintaining a scholarly agenda consistent with university expectations and CAPTE standards.
Providing academic advising and mentorship to DPT students.
Participating in program, university, and professional service activities.
Salary:
Assistant rank up to $106,500 and Associate rank up to $118,00

Minimum Qualifications Required:
*Terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, DSc, or related).
*ABD candidates demonstrating progress toward completion may be considered.
*DPT candidates with demonstrated research activity may also be considered.
*Demonstrated content expertise in proposed teaching areas.
*Evidence of effective teaching or potential for excellence in teaching.
*Demonstrated or emerging scholarly agenda consistent with Boyer’s model of scholarship.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*Ability to prioritize tasks, organize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
*Ability to effectively utilize instructional technologies such as Brightspace (D2L), Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
*Eligibility for or current licensure to practice physical therapy in Colorado.
*Minimum three (3) years of clinical practice experience.
*Prior university-level teaching experience in a DPT or related program (e.g., PTA).
*Board or specialty certification (e.g., ABPTS, FAAOMPT) in area of expertise.
*Active membership in the American Physical Therapy Association and relevant academies.
