Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy is a pluralistic Jewish day school for students in grades 6-12. We are currently seeking a Health/PE Teacher & Assistant Athletic Director for the 2025/2026 school year, beginning in January, 2026. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching health and physical education as well as organizational skills and relevant experience to support interscholastic athletics as the assistant director.
Health/PE Teacher
- Teach physical education and health education classes in the middle school and upper school, with the opportunity to plan an individualized upper school PE curriculum as well as Red Cross certification.
- Exude a passion for physical and health education.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, student-centered, purposeful curricula and instruction while staying up to date on current trends and relevant topics.
- Collaborate effectively with Health/PE faculty.
- Maintain an organized, welcoming classroom environment while successfully sharing space with other faculty.
- Develop and maintain effective classroom management strategies.
Assistant Athletic Director
- Maintain accurate inventory and effective storage of team uniforms, practice gear, and physical education/athletics equipment. Oversee handout and return of uniforms and team-issued apparel. Recommend annual purchases to the Athletic Director.
- Lead games management in the winter (basketball), which includes gym prep and covering the scorer’s table for home games. Assist with games management when needed in the fall and spring.
- Prepare field, gym, and court for athletic contests. Monitor the safety and cleanliness of each space for physical education, athletics, and general usage on a regular basis.
- Coach a season of after-school sports in the fall or spring, preferably at the varsity level.
- Post scores and adjust content on the athletics website as needed.
- Assist the Athletic Director with special events such as banquets, pep rallies, leadership development and/or community engagement events as needed.
- Monitor and maintain team records.
- Confirm athletics contests on a bi-weekly basis.
- Assist with social media and other marketing/engagement efforts as needed.
Community member
- Participate in department and staff meetings, as well as school-wide events.
- Be an active, positive school community member.
- Show professionalism and exhibit a desire to grow and develop professionally.
