About this role

Independent Mental Performance Consultant
Independent Contractor | Remote | Work with Athletes Across the U.S.

SPMI LLC (SPMI) is seeking exceptional mental performance professionals to join our growing organization and help athletes strengthen confidence, focus, emotional control, resilience, consistency, preparation, and performance under pressure.

This opportunity is designed for professionals who want more than simply conducting individual sessions. We are looking to build long-term relationships with outstanding consultants who want to develop professionally, work with athletes across a wide range of sports and competitive levels, and grow alongside an established mental performance organization.

As SPMI continues to expand its reach nationwide, selected consultants will have the opportunity to become part of an organization committed to providing high-quality, practical mental performance training while maintaining strong professional, ethical, and client-care standards.

This is a remote, non-exclusive independent contractor opportunity. While SPMI hopes to provide increasing opportunities as the organization grows, no minimum number of clients, sessions, hours, assignments, or compensation is guaranteed.

Responsibilities
Consultants may be responsible for:

Providing individual mental performance training to athletes across different sports and competitive levels.
Helping athletes develop practical mental skills related to confidence, focus, preparation, emotional control, motivation, resilience, consistency, and performance under pressure.
Conducting remote individual sessions and, when applicable, team or group sessions.
Communicating professionally with athletes and, when appropriate, parents or guardians.
Maintaining appropriate session notes, attendance records, and progress documentation.
Using SPMI-approved communication, scheduling, and videoconferencing systems.
Participating in onboarding, training, consultation, and quality-review activities as reasonably required.
Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, confidentiality, and client-safety standards.
Recognizing when client needs fall outside the consultant's competence or non-clinical scope and following appropriate SPMI referral or escalation procedures.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must:

Hold a Master's degree in Sport Psychology, Performance Psychology, or another closely related field approved by SPMI.
Possess appropriate education, training, competence, and professional qualifications to provide mental performance services.
Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Be comfortable working with athletes from different sports, ages, backgrounds, and competitive levels.
Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, organization, and sound ethical judgment.
Be comfortable providing services virtually.
Maintain professional liability/errors-and-omissions insurance as required by SPMI.
Successfully complete a background check provided by SPMI prior to beginning client services.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates may have:

Previous experience providing mental performance training, sport psychology services, performance coaching, or related athlete-development services.
Experience working directly with competitive athletes.
Experience as a collegiate, professional, national-level, or other high-level competitive athlete.
Experience working with youth, high school, collegiate, elite, or professional athletes.
A strong commitment to continued professional development.
A desire to establish a long-term professional relationship with SPMI and contribute to the organization's growth and mission.
Location & Availability
This is a fully remote independent contractor opportunity open to qualified applicants throughout the United States.

SPMI will give priority consideration to candidates residing in Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. However, qualified applicants from other states are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should be available to conduct virtual mental performance sessions during peak client hours, particularly weekday evenings between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM Eastern Time.

Applicants who can consistently offer approximately 6–10 hours of weekly availability are preferred. Scheduling flexibility will be an important consideration in the selection process.

This opportunity may be particularly attractive to qualified professionals seeking to supplement their existing professional work while developing a long-term relationship with SPMI.

Training & Professional Development
Selected consultants will participate in SPMI's onboarding and training process to become familiar with the organization's mental performance methods, service standards, client communication expectations, and operational procedures.

SPMI is committed to maintaining a consistent, high-quality client experience. Consultants will be expected to demonstrate appropriate competence, professionalism, and readiness before receiving independent client assignments.

As consultants gain experience with SPMI's systems and demonstrate proficiency, opportunities for increased responsibility, additional client assignments, and higher per-session compensation may become available.

Compensation
Initial compensation is $45–$60 per completed client session, depending on the applicable compensation arrangement.

Compensation includes associated preparation, session documentation, and reasonable follow-up responsibilities. Because consultants are compensated per completed session rather than through a traditional hourly wage, actual effective hourly earnings will vary depending on the total time required.

SPMI provides onboarding and training in its mental performance methods and service standards. Consultants who successfully complete training and demonstrate proficiency may qualify for increased per-session compensation under an agreed compensation schedule.

Payments are processed biweekly for completed and properly documented services.

This is a non-exclusive independent contractor opportunity, not a traditional hourly or salaried employment position. No minimum number of clients, sessions, hours, assignments, income, or future compensation increases is guaranteed.

Professional Scope
SPMI Mental Performance Consultants provide non-clinical performance-enhancement services.

Consultants do not provide psychotherapy, diagnose or treat mental-health disorders, prescribe medication, or perform services requiring a professional license they do not possess.

Consultants must work within their professional competence and follow appropriate referral and escalation procedures when an athlete's needs fall outside the scope of SPMI's services.

Contractor Structure
Consultants are engaged on a non-exclusive independent contractor basis.

SPMI may offer client assignments based on availability, qualifications, client fit, geography, capacity, performance, and other business considerations.

Consultants may accept or decline assignments.

SPMI is actively working to expand its reach and the number of athletes it serves. Our hope is that successful consultants will have opportunities to grow with the organization over time; however, SPMI does not guarantee any minimum number of clients, assignments, sessions, hours, income, or future opportunities.

About SPMI
For more than 15 years, SPMI has been dedicated to helping athletes strengthen the mental side of performance. SPMI has worked with athletes across a wide range of sports, ages, and competitive levels, from developing youth and high school athletes to collegiate, elite, and professional competitors.

Our approach emphasizes practical mental performance training that athletes can apply directly to training, competition, and everyday life.

As SPMI continues to expand, our goal is to build a team of exceptional professionals who share our commitment to providing athletes with high-quality mental performance services and an outstanding client experience.

At SPMI, our services are rooted in biblical principles. We value honoring God through our work and helping athletes improve both performance and overall well-being. We believe every athlete interaction is an opportunity to serve with purpose, integrity, professionalism, and excellence.

We are looking for consultants who share that commitment and who are excited about the possibility of building a meaningful, long-term professional relationship with SPMI as we continue to grow.

If you are passionate about helping athletes reach their potential and want the opportunity to grow alongside an expanding mental performance organization, we encourage you to apply.
