Position Summary:
Arkansas State University (A-State) is recruiting applicants for the position of Full-Time Instructor of Horn beginning August 16, 2026. A-State seeks a visionary musician and educator who will join a music department recognized throughout the region for artistic excellence and student success.
The Artist/Instructor of Horn is expected to be an outstanding leader, music educator, and performer for undergraduate and graduate level music students as well as be a visible resource to the instrumental music education community in the Mid-South and beyond.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Teach applied horn to both undergraduate and graduate students, including music majors and non-majors, and related courses (horn pedagogy, horn choir, studio class)
- Teach the horn portion of High Brass Techniques to music education students
- Assist with the recruiting and retention efforts of the department for music and non-music majors in the horn studio
- Pursue an active performance/creative/scholarly agenda
- Maintain regular and reliable communication, and perform additional duties that will be assigned based on the strengths of the selected applicant and needs of the department

General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (hours vary related to clinical rotations, office hours, didactic course load, and other program activities)
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance
The Artist/Instructor of Horn will be expected to have regular and reliable attendance Monday - Friday during the school day (8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.) to teach courses, hold office hours, and participate fully in departmental, collegiate, and university activities. Additional hours outside of the school day are expected as needed for items that include but are not limited to performances, recruiting, and outreach.

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned Master's Degree in horn is required, a Doctorate or commensurate experience is preferred.
A strong commitment to recruiting, developing, and retaining outstanding horn students; evidence of ongoing creative, performing, or research activities; demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups associated with a major university music program including students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, and community members. Evidence of ongoing creative, performing, or research activities is also required.
