Education/Experience Required:
Completion of AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology ARRT Registered Specialized training and education in mammography positioning, technique selection, and physics Ability to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups, mostly age 30 and above; must be able to recognize physical signs of stress, apprehension, and anxiety in patients
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Experienced in the use of analog and all current digital technologies as of 2010.
ARRT Certification IDNS License Evidence of specialized training in positioning, compression, technical selection, anatomy and physiology, equipment, quality control, and customer satisfaction training CPR Certification
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Continuing Education is mandated by both the Federal and State Governments in order for the technologist to maintain their specialized certification in mammography. In addition, technologists are expected to work in a stressful environment that frequently requires educating the patient relative to the advantages and disadvantages of mammography and the current state of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Frequent contact with emotional women and families. Hazards from repetitive motion (bending, lifting, positioning). Exposure to infectious diseases.
If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Addendum: NOTE: Comply with mandatory inservices for Fire Safety, MRI Safety, and Universal Precautions; Maintain CPR Certification. Must maintain professional decorum, and adhere to dress code as required by department; no deviations allowed.

Establishes a system to monitor and track all suspicious mammography reports to ensure physician follow-up. This includes physician notification of pending follow-up recommendations, the tracking of recommended biopsies, or suspicious cases referred to surgeons, and any other referral such as ultrasound or magnetic resonance. Responsible for letters generated to physicians, and the update of results in the Optima System to maintain current database on patient outcomes, track patient summary letters. Provides staff training and support on the new Penrad Tracking System. Serve as a liaison between the Medical Director, referring physicians, nursing units, department management, and ancillary/support departments in facilitating a high degree of customer satisfaction with mammography services. Maintains department customer focus by setting example. Participates on Advocate system-wide Mammography Subcommittee. Participates as needed on clinical excellence committees at corporate level. Ensures monthly cycle time data is prepared and sent to appropriate people; reviews outcome. Prepares monthly department Quality Assurance Reports for Director and Medical Chairman. Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of quality assurance and quality control plans sufficient to satisfy all Federal, State, and local governing and regulatory bodies, including all MQSA, ACR, and ACS requirements. Is responsible for the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual quality assurance testing at the Good Samaritan Hospital and all other offsite centers. Oversees MQSA Inspections at both facilities.
