About the Acute Psychiatric Unit
Austin Health’s Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU) is part of the North East Mental Health Service and located at Austin Hospital. The APU is a 24-bed unit which consists of 19-acute inpatient beds and 5 statewide eating disorder beds. APU forms part of the broader Mental Health Division that provides care over 3 main sites – Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre.
About the role
As the Occupational Therapist, you will provide psychosocial assessments and interventions, and assist in supporting the long-term recovery for patients, their families and carers. A regular day will see you:
- Working in a multidisciplinary team acute environment to address occupational needs or consumers and have a positive impact of their experience of care.
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to actively support patients’ access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) with the aim of patients with the aim of patients returning to their communities.
- Participating in quality supervision and training.
- Contributing to a position workplace culture that prioritises wellbeing and personal growth in a supportive team environment.
About you
You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
- Relevant qualification in Occupational Therapy and current AHPRA registration.
- Experience in or have a strong interest in acute mental health settings.
- Committed to person-centred, trauma-informed and recovery-focused care.
- Demonstrated ability to work across a multidisciplinary team, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Energy, enthusiasm and passion for a career in public mental health.
