UAMS Emergency Medicine Residency Associate Program Director Recruitment
Position Overview:
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a full-time ABEM/ABOEM board eligible or certified physician to join our Residency Leadership team as Associate Program Director (APD).
The ideal candidate is an engaged and collaborative educator who models professionalism and values teamwork and continuous growth. Successful applicants will bring prior experience in graduate medical education, demonstrate enthusiasm for supporting residents, and show commitment to academic excellence. In this role, the APD will support the educational and operational components of a high-quality residency program that aligns with departmental and institutional expectations. The successful candidate will be a valued partner in residency leadership, working closely with Program Director, Dr. Meryll Bouldin, to advance the program’s mission and future direction.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or equivalent
- Board certification in the relevant specialty
- Eligible for or currently licensed to practice medicine in the state of Arkansas
- Demonstrated leadership experience or administrative responsibilities within a residency or fellowship program
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in GME leadership (e.g., Program Director, Associate Program Director, or 1 year as Assistant Program Director)
- Familiarity with ACGME accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and
curriculum development - Effective communication skills
- Reliable organizational skills and attention to detail
- Dedication to teamwork, professionalism, and a positive program culture
- Interest in educational innovation and continuous program improvement
- Commitment to resident development, feedback-driven growth, and professional advancement
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight of the residency program
- Ensure compliance with ACGME and institutional GME policies and standards
- Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate the educational curriculum
- Recruit, interview, and select residents in coordination with program faculty and the Graduate Medical Education office
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, guide remediation processes, and support ongoing professional development for residents
- Serve on the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC), contributing to the development and maintenance of resident
and rotation evaluation systems - Foster a learning environment that promotes diversity, inclusion, and wellness
- Maintain an active presence at residency conferences, faculty meetings, and departmental events to ensure accessibility and visibility within the program
- Serve as liaison between the program and GME Office, ACGME, and other regulatory bodies
- Prepare for and participate in site visits and accreditation reviews
- Promote scholarly activity among faculty and residents
- Support program operations and represent the Program Director when needed, including participation in institutional GME meetings and other leadership
functions.
