Postdoctoral Residency/Fellowship in Sport & Performance Psychology (2026–2028)
Premier Sport Psychology is pleased to offer a full-time, two-year Postdoctoral Residency/Fellowship for the 2026–2028 academic years. The fellowship begins in summer 2026, with a flexible start window between June and August.
This program is designed for emerging professionals pursuing licensure as psychologists who are passionate about the intersection of mental health, performance, leadership, and athletic excellence. Fellows gain advanced applied experience providing clinical and mental performance services, consulting alongside senior client leads, and receiving supervision from providers actively working with teams and organizations at the highest levels of sport. Candidates selected for this role may work with clients across all competitive levels.
As part of Premier’s multidisciplinary sport psychology team, fellows collaborate with licensed psychologists, athletic counselors, Certified Mental Performance Consultants (CMPCs), and industrial-organizational psychology professionals in a dynamic, team-based environment focused on whole-person well-being and performance optimization.
Candidates should be highly motivated doctoral graduates of APA-accredited counseling or clinical psychology programs who have completed an APA-accredited doctoral internship. Premier Sport Psychology seeks applicants with demonstrated experience serving individuals from diverse backgrounds and strong skills in counseling, intake assessment, documentation, and treatment planning. Applicants with experience or interest in working directly with teams, coaches, parents, and support staff—especially within youth and collegiate athletics—are strongly encouraged to apply.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical/Counseling psychology (from an accredited institution)
- Completion of an APA-accredited internship
- Experience working with student-athletes or performers
- Strong clinical, communication, and presentation/public speaking skills
- Commitment to culturally responsive practice across diverse populations
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and professional
- Completion of dissertation prior to start date
- Adherence to APA ethics and Minnesota Board of Psychology guidelines
- Strong skills in timely and high-quality documentation practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- CMPC certification (or eligibility) through AASP
- Experience working with athletes of all ages and sports
- Public speaking and workshop facilitation experience
- Training in performance or mental skills development
- Specific training in substance use, pediatric anxiety, eating disorders, trauma and/or other evidence-based therapies for self-harm.
