The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Physician Assistant Leadership and Learning Academy (PALLA) is now hiring for Scholar-in-Residence (SiR). This position will be a part-time 0.45% FTE. This role is ideal for an innovative, interprofessional scholar and thought leader who possesses exceptional research and scholarly expertise, complemented by a distinguished record of excellence in leading interdisciplinary team collaborations. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of PALLA, the SiR serves as a core member of the Research and Innovation team. The SiR will contribute to the broader research enterprise, instructional activities, and university service while developing and implementing strategic initiatives to elevate PALLA's scholarly output and foster a culture of inquiry. This position is a short-term, renewable appointment that offers a unique platform to shape the strategic direction of PALLA and contribute meaningfully to the academic excellence of UMB.

PALLA -- housed within the University of Maryland School of Graduate Studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore -- is a statewide initiative dedicated to strengthening and expanding the PA profession across Maryland. Our mission is to build faculty capacity, support clinical educators, and equip the next generation of PA leaders to advance education, research, and policy. At its core, PALLA fosters an inclusive learning community committed to excellence in PA education and expanding healthcare access for all Marylanders.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Supports the creation of a PA workforce research center (PAWRC) for the state of Maryland.
• Collaborates with PALLA faculty in writing and submitting grants such as the Innovative Programs to Enhance Research Training for PAs (IPERT). https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-24-252.html
• Share insights with PALLA leadership, SGS leadership, and the Maryland PA community regarding current research and research needs in PA education.
• Assist PALLA members to develop program evaluation methods to foster ongoing self-improvement.
• Communicate broadly and disseminate the benefits and relevance of PALLA to external stakeholders.
• Support PALLA's scholarly activities, including conceptualization of research projects and development and dissemination of manuscripts and research reports.
• Collaborate with internal and external scholars on research related to health professions education, practice, and workforce trends.
• Participate in professional, departmental, institutional, and university service activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• Graduate level education is required.
• Experience in medical and health professions, education, and research. Minimum of 3 years of research experience with record of excellence.
• Program leadership and project management experience preferred.
• Experience in Health Services Research (HSR) and mentoring.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly publications and presentations.
• Strong interpersonal abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs and statistical software such as SPSS.
