Job DescriptionThe University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Graduate Studies has an opportunity for a Simulation Educator. The Simulation Educator serves as an educator and facilitator of simulation-based training and evaluation for the School of Graduate Studies' PA Program. Designs and conducts various training protocols and assessments for medical students, physician assistant students, nurses, physical therapists, pharmacy students, and/or residents in various clinical departments, and other health care providers. Identify and train individuals to serve as standardized patients. The Simulation Educator will also manage the maintenance, service requirements, and operational records of simulation equipment, (e.g., models, task trainers, high-definition simulation manikins, and computer/video/sound equipment, etc.) and provide data reports to the participating entities.

Primary Duties
- Develop and design simulation training course content and curriculum. Develop and execute simulation-based training scenarios and assessments relevant to emergency care, sentinel events, surgical and medical skills across the lifespan, triage, team training, and outpatient and inpatient hospital and clinical care.
- Collaborate with physicians, faculty educators, and other stakeholders on the development and delivery of simulation activities and the integration of equipment into learning strategies and assessment processes.
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair simulation technologic equipment and task trainers including but not limited to computer-based systems, video equipment, high-definition and static manikins, and screen-based simulation/virtual reality surgical simulators.
- Educate and instruct faculty, staff and students on the use of simulation and standardized patient best practices related to feedback and assessment. Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies, participate in technology training, and attend conferences to stay current with simulation technology.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-related policies, procedures, and operational workflows.
- May supervise other simulation training staff and/or administrative personnel related to the simulation training unit as assigned.
- Coordinate scheduling of events in the simulation spaces to accommodate the needs of the PA Program and School of Pharmacy as prioritized participants.
- Collaborate with faculty to provide guidance on quality curriculum design and delivery, discipline, program and course content and continuity, currency, and relevance based on information such as emerging medical practice changes in the discipline, instructional effectiveness data, current or future performance requirements, feasibility, and costs, and the analysis and evaluation of courses.
- Recruit, and train individuals to serve as standardized patients for simulation experiences that require live interaction, and on providing feedback to students. Ensure interrater reliability among standardized patients.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in clinical education, nursing, health sciences, technology or clinically related field.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in a field related to simulation with at least two (2) years in clinical education.
Supervisory Experience: One (1) year in work coordination, training, and daily oversight of staff, students, or volunteers preferred.
Certification/Licensure: Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operation Specialist (CHSOS) preferred. Active registration and licensure in a related healthcare field may be required for physicians and nurses.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

Hiring Range: $137,000 - $140,000, commensurate with education and experience.
