Description
The Senior Director for Institutional Advancement and Partnerships position at the Council of Graduate Schools is a full-time role located in Washington, D.C. The position requires MD, DC, or VA residence and may work partially remotely.
The successful candidate will oversee management of the Office of Institutional Advancement, Member Engagement and Partnerships, focusing on expanding CGS’s network for institutional, sustaining, international and affiliate members. The role demands front-line advancement experience and membership engagement, established relationships in philanthropic, cultural, international, and academic communities, and an understanding of international affairs, culture and diplomacy.
The ideal candidate combines sophisticated understanding of higher education institutional dynamics with entrepreneurial business acumen, exceptional relationship-building skills, and a track record of achieving revenue targets in association or nonprofit environments.
Key responsibilities
Oversee association membership and corporate relations
Lead strategic membership growth and engagement
Manage financial reporting, business model development, and revenue targets
Collaborate with leadership on resource and strategic planning
Supervise membership, corporate, and meetings staff, fostering professional development

Requirements
What We’re Looking For:
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field (Doctorate preferred)
Minimum 8 years in membership development, advancement, or business development with 5+ years in leadership
Proven track record in achieving growth targets in associations/nonprofits
Deep familiarity with higher education landscape, institutional types, and decision-making processes
Demonstrated success developing and closing significant membership or partnership agreements
