The Department of Emergency Medicine at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a dynamic, mission-driven emergency physician to serve as Assistant (or Associate) Program Director for its ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine Residency Program based at Dell Seton Medical Center.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join a forward-thinking academic department within a rapidly growing medical school and a high-acuity urban academic medical center serving as the primary teaching hospital for UT Austin.
Position Overview
The Assistant/Associate Program Director (APD) will work in close collaboration with the Program Director, Division Chief of Emergency Medicine, and departmental leadership to advance the residency program’s mission in clinical excellence, education, scholarship, and community impact.
The residency is based at Dell Seton Medical Center, a Level I trauma center and tertiary referral center in Central Texas, with a diverse patient population and strong institutional commitment to graduate medical education innovation.Key Responsibilities
Educational Leadership
Assist in oversight of all aspects of residency education in compliance with ACGME and RRC-EM requirements Lead and/or support curriculum development (didactics, simulation, ultrasound, quality & safety, wellness, DEI initiatives) Participate in resident recruitment, selection, and onboarding Direct resident assessment, Clinical Competency Committee participation, and milestone evaluation Mentor residents in career development, scholarship, and fellowship preparation Administrative & Accreditation Oversight
Support program evaluation and continuous quality improvement processes Contribute to ACGME accreditation activities, annual program evaluation, and site visits Collaborate with GME leadership and institutional stakeholders Assist with policy development and residency operations Clinical Practice
Maintain active clinical practice within the emergency department at Dell Seton Medical Center Participate in faculty development and departmental educational initiatives
Qualifications
MD/DO with board certification in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM) Eligible for Texas medical licensure Demonstrated excellence in clinical care and resident education Academic productivity appropriate for faculty appointment Prior leadership, fellowship training, or significant involvement in residency education preferred Associate Program Director rank will be commensurate with experience.
