Lopez Island Physical Therapy

Company Overview

Lopez Island Physical Therapy is an independent outpatient orthopedic clinic serving the close-knit community of Lopez Island in Washington’s San Juan Islands. Our mission is to help people move well, recover confidently, and remain active throughout their lives through thoughtful, individualized, evidence-informed care.

Because we are the island’s primary physical therapy clinic, our therapists work with a broad and rewarding caseload—from postoperative rehabilitation and persistent musculoskeletal conditions to balance, mobility, sports, and recreational injuries. We value clinical reasoning, professional autonomy, strong patient relationships, and collaboration with the island’s broader healthcare community.

Working at Lopez Island Physical Therapy offers the opportunity to make a visible difference in a community where your skills are genuinely needed and appreciated. Outside the clinic, Lopez Island provides an exceptional quality of life, with quiet roads, forests, beaches, boating, hiking, cycling, and easy access to the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

Company History

Physical therapy has been provided on Lopez Island since approximately 1998, originally from a small treatment space within the island’s medical clinic. In 2017, longtime members of the local healthcare community established Lopez Island Physical Therapy as an independent practice, ensuring that residents could continue receiving rehabilitation services without regularly traveling off-island.

With substantial support from the Lopez Island community, the Catherine Washburn Medical Association, and the Lopez Island Hospital District, the practice moved into its current location in Lopez Village in 2019. The larger facility provided a dedicated rehabilitation gym, private treatment rooms, and room to expand the services available to the community.

The clinic has continued to evolve under new ownership while remaining locally operated and independent. Today, Lopez Island Physical Therapy builds upon more than 25 years of service by combining its longstanding community role with evidence-informed care, modern clinical tools, and the development of new programs designed around the changing needs of island residents.

Benefits

Living and working on Lopez Island offers a rare combination of meaningful professional work, natural beauty, and a slower, more connected way of life. Known as the “Friendly Isle,” Lopez has a strong sense of community, quiet roads, locally owned businesses, a vibrant arts and agricultural culture, and miles of shoreline, beaches, forests, and open countryside. Hiking, cycling, kayaking, sailing, fishing, and wildlife viewing can all become part of everyday life rather than activities reserved for vacations.

For a physical therapist, working on Lopez also means becoming a valued healthcare resource within a close-knit rural community. You have the opportunity to know your patients beyond their diagnoses, build lasting relationships, and see the direct effect of your work on their ability to remain active and independent. Without a long daily commute and with the San Juan Islands just outside your door, Lopez offers space for both a rewarding career and a rich life away from the clinic.
