The W. F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research is a Jerusalem-based nonprofit research institution supporting the study of the history and societies of the Near East, from prehistory to the present. It advances archaeological, historical, textual, and cultural research through fellowships, scholarly resources, lectures, public programs, and initiatives supporting the preservation and development of cultural heritage sites.

Company History

Founded in Jerusalem in 1900 as the American School of Oriental Research, the W. F. Albright Institute has played a central role in the development of American archaeology and Near Eastern studies. Its scholars contributed foundational research in Levantine archaeology, and the first photographs of the Dead Sea Scrolls were taken in the Institute’s basement in 1947. Renamed the William Foxwell Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in 1970, it has since developed into a multidisciplinary center supporting archaeological, historical, textual, and cultural-heritage research.
