Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Development for Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Assistant Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations plays an essential role on the corporate and foundation fundraising team. The Assistant Director conducts in-depth research and prospect analysis for corporate and foundation fundraising, serves as the lead support for team CRM input and maintenance, and assists in the development of corporate and foundation funding proposals. The successful candidate understands the sensitive nature of project and budget information that must be kept confidential.
Job Duties
- Maintain a portfolio of 50-75 organizational prospects for gifts, grants, and sponsorships.
- Work to engage and network through industry events and with influential alumni and non-alumni for introductions to potential funders.
- Ensure integration with the overall campus strategic plan and coordinate with campus colleagues and partners to locate and utilize resources that meet identified development goals and objectives.
- Create customized sponsorship packages that offer brand visibility, employee engagement, and community impact for both signature and new events.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align corporate support with university priorities, including academic programs, student success, and campus events.
- Draft and edit major gift, corporate, and foundation proposals and other fundraising and marketing documents.
- Coordinate checklist, preparation, and submission of proposal packages.
- Research, identify, and analyze corporate and foundation prospects and prepare briefings for dissemination.
- Disseminate prospective funding briefings and opportunities to faculty and center directors, tracking metrics.
- Maintain current corporate and foundation contact records, opportunities, solicitations, and activities in the CRM.
- Maintain familiarity with the University's programs, faculty research, and other departments as it relates to opportunities for fundraising.
Requested Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of corporate and foundation prospect research, prospect cultivation and strategy, and proposal writing experience.
- Knowledge and curiosity about the philanthropic sector, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong computer skills, including all Google applications, Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Analytical skills are a must with good organizational skills, flexibility, and confidentiality
- Proven track record of successful fundraising of closing five and six-figure gifts annually
- An ability to work with many different constituencies is absolutely necessary, as is the ability to balance multiple projects and stakeholders
- Curiosity, an interest in continual learning, the ability to make mental connections, excellent critical thinking and good judgment, and an interest in supporting the mission of a comprehensive HBCU that is expanding opportunities for minority students in research and other critical areas.
