Description
Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor Faculty Position
Department of Emergency Medicine &
Department of Population Health Sciences
Weill Cornell Medicine, New York City
The Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) and the Department of Population Health Sciences (PHS) at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) in New York City are jointly recruiting a tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in artificial intelligence (AI) and health informatics applied to emergency care. We are seeking candidates with a strong background in mathematical, statistical, and/or computational methodologies, including machine learning, natural language processing, and predictive modeling to analyze multi-modal emergency medicine data encompassing electronic health records, clinical time-series, prehospital data streams, and wearable and remote sensing outputs. Areas of high priority include, but are not limited to, large language models and generative AI for clinical documentation and decision support, real-time predictive modeling for acuity and deterioration, AI-enabled telehealth and prehospital systems, algorithmic fairness and equity in emergency care, and the deployment and evaluation of AI tools in resource-limited settings.
The faculty member will join a dynamic and collaborative research environment and will be appointed primarily in the Department of Emergency Medicine, with a joint appointment in the Division of Health Informatics and Artificial Intelligence within PHS. The Department of Emergency Medicine maintains an active portfolio of federally funded research spanning prehospital systems, global emergency care, telemedicine, and climate-health, including the Center for Virtual Care (CVC), a national leader in emergency telehealth innovation. The faculty member will have extensive opportunities for collaboration with researchers across WCM departments, including the WCM Institute of AI for Digital Health (AIDH), as well as partner institutions New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Cornell Tech, Cornell’s NYC-based engineering campus. For candidates with interests in global health, the department’s partnerships across South Asia and Africa offer unique opportunities to study AI applications in low- and middle-income country emergency settings.
Requirements
The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in computer science, biomedical informatics, data science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related quantitative field. The candidate should have a strong publication record in high-impact peer-reviewed venues and provide evidence of potential or demonstrated ability to develop and lead an independent, world-class research program, including securing extramural funding and mentoring trainees. A track record of securing federal funding, or strong potential to obtain federal funding, is highly desirable. Experience in curriculum development, teaching, and scholarship activities in biomedical AI or health informatics is expected. The candidate should have strong communication skills, an established record of interdisciplinary collaboration, and demonstrated readiness to engage with clinical partners, industry, and communities. Prior experience working with emergency medicine data, clinical decision support systems, or health AI applications in acute care settings is highly desirable. The successful candidate will also become a member of the WCM Institute of AI for Digital Health (AIDH) and will collaborate closely with faculty across the institute.
