Description
The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, San Marcos creates an environment of innovative research, student-centered learning, and effective community engagement in movement and health. Our vision is to become a leader in the study of movement and health by promoting meaningful student achievement, impactful research, and valuable contributions to our communities. The department consists of 15 tenure-track faculty, 23 lecturers, and over 1400 undergraduate and graduate students. Areas of research excellence include environmental and occupational physiology, cardiometabolic and perceptual responses to intermittent exercise, pedagogy and mindfulness, exercise-drug interactions, augmented reality, health education and promotion, epidemiology, gait, and influence of load carriage on biomechanics and motor control. Facilities for teaching and research include well equipped anatomy, aquatics, biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control, phlebotomy, physical education teacher education, public health, and virtual reality spaces/labs.
The Department of Kinesiology invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin Fall 2027. We seek a scholar who is passionate about undergraduate and graduate education, who is invested in student success, who has a strong people-centered experience in kinesiology and its related fields, and who can contribute broadly through teaching, research, and service. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, an active research agenda, and meaningful engagement with students, colleagues, and the broader community.
Requirements
n earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, EdD, DPT) in Kinesiology or a closely related field is required (ABD status considered, however, conferral of degree is required at the time of hire).
Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Ability to develop and sustain an independent research program, with evidence of publications in scholarly journals and/or conferences.
Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with departmental colleagues and contribute to our campus community are essential.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise and ability to teach both introductory and higher-level kinesiology courses. We encourage candidates to look at the courses offered by the department and describe the courses they can teach in their teaching statement.
History of interdisciplinary collaboration and/or community-based research.
Evidence of applying to and obtaining external funding.
Post doctoral or clinical training.
Additionally, applicants who can demonstrate intercultural competence with a variety of groups in teaching, research, and service are strongly preferred.
