Position Summary
The Associate Director of Athletic Bands/Director of Band Festivals is a senior staff leader who provides strategic oversight, instructional leadership, and administrative direction for the Redcoat Marching Band, with primary responsibility for instruction, logistics, and operational planning. The position also plays a key leadership role in supporting athletic bands for UGA men's and women's basketball, volleyball, and other athletic programs. Additionally, this role serves as administrator and director for major band and choral music festivals held throughout the academic year-including MidFest, JanFest, and Choral Day-overseeing comprehensive planning, staffing, and execution to ensure high-quality performance experiences.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- The position involves substantial skill and experience in marching band instruction and administration, including conducting marching bands and well-developed error-detection abilities in musical and visual domains related to marching and athletic bands.
- Working knowledge of rules and game management practices in athletic events. Administrative skills, including Microsoft 365 suite, excellent verbal and written skills, and outstanding organizational skills.
- Knowledge in management of large-scale music festival organization, including, but not limited to: budgeting, marketing, auditions, student placements, performances, and hiring.
- Demonstrated commitment to a collegial and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, musical and performance growth, as well as school spirit.
Physical Demands
- Safely traverse uneven and inconsistent surfaces, including artificial athletic turf, natural grass in dry and wet conditions, and areas containing numerous obstacles such as television cables.
- Ascend/descend stairs and ladders at fluctuating pace.
- Work safely in crowds whose movements can be unpredictable.
- Position oneself to observe, instruct, and conduct marching bands.
- Lift and move music and related equipment up to 75 pounds.
- Tolerate a wide variety of weather conditions and very loud environments for extended periods of time.
- Work late nights, very early mornings, and on weekends.
- Work at a computer for extended periods.

Provide Leadership and Co-Directorship for the UGA Redcoat Marching Band Faculty and Staff
- Serve as Associate co-director and co-instructor, conduct and direct marching band rehearsals and performances.
- Exercise independent judgment in instructional, artistic and operational decision-making.
- Lead planning and execution of logistics and operations, including rehearsal schedules, performance coordination and staffing plans.
- Provide strategic leadership in show design, planning, and collaboration with faculty.
- Lead small group and full-ensemble rehearsals and other events
- Exercise responsibility in audition oversight and evaluation standards
- Represent the Redcoat Band across campus partners, addressing operational needs as they arise.
