Full-Time or Part-Time

Community Christian School is seeking a passionate and skilled Band Director to lead and grow our 5th–12th grade band program. This position may be structured as either full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate’s availability, qualifications, and overall fit for the school. For candidates seeking a full-time role, there may be an opportunity to teach an additional class in an area of interest or strength, based on the needs of the school.
This position offers the opportunity to invest in students musically, personally, and spiritually within a Christ-centered school community. The Band Director will help students grow in musicianship, discipline, teamwork, and confidence while encouraging them to use their gifts in ways that honor God.
The ideal candidate will bring musical competence, strong classroom leadership, and a heart for Christian education. This person will foster a positive learning environment, build a strong band culture, and contribute meaningfully to the broader life and mission of the school.
Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
Teach and direct band classes for students in grades 5–12
Plan and lead engaging rehearsals that build instrumental technique, music literacy, ensemble skills, and performance readiness
Develop age-appropriate instruction for students at varying ability levels, from beginning band through high school ensemble performance
Prepare students for concerts, school programs, contests, festivals, and other public performances as appropriate
Select music that fits the student's ability, supports program growth, and reflects the values of a Christ-centered school environment
Cultivate a classroom atmosphere marked by encouragement, discipline, teamwork, and respect
Encourage students in both musical growth and character development
Communicate clearly and professionally with parents, staff, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and program needs
Assist in the care, organization, and oversight of music inventory, instruments, sheet music, and equipment
For candidates interested in a broader teaching role, teach an additional class in an area of personal interest, gifting, or academic strength, as determined in collaboration with school administration
Maintain a visible Christian testimony and serve as a positive spiritual role model for students
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field preferred
Experience teaching or directing school band programs preferred
Ability to teach students across a wide range of ages and skill levels
Strong classroom leadership, organizational ability, and communication skills
Willingness to teach an additional course, if pursuing a full-time role, and aligned with the school's needs
A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a lifestyle consistent with the mission and values of Community Christian School
A desire to invest in students both musically and spiritually
