Description
Mississippi Burn, Hand and Reconstruction Center is seeking a fellowship-trained, board-certified or board-eligible Surgeon who has an interest in burn and wound care to join our multidisciplinary team in Jackson, MS.
This position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive surgical care to both adult and pediatric patients with hand injuries, burn injuries, complex wounds, and reconstructive needs. The surgeon will participate in the full continuum of patient care, from initial evaluation, acute surgical management through outpatient follow-up, rehabilitation, scar management and long-term reconstruction.
The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to multidisciplinary extremity care, excellent surgical and clinical judgement, and an interest in helping advance a growing burn, wound, hand and reconstruction surgery program.
Requirements
Hand & extremity care
o Evaluate and manage adult and pediatric patients in emergency, inpatient, operative and outpatient settings with an emphasis on restoration of function
o Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and forearm, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, arthritis, and congenital anomalies
o Perform advanced surgical procedures of the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow, including microsurgery, tendon and nerve repair, fracture fixation, and arthroscopy
Burn & wound care
o Provide comprehensive care from initial assessment and stabilization through operative treatment, wound closure, rehabilitation, scar management reconstruction and long term follow up
o Perform acute burn surgery, restorative and reconstructive surgery, depending on patient needs
Provide preoperative and postoperative care, ensuring optimal recovery and rehabilitation
Communicate compassionately with patients and families regarding treatment plans, surgical procedures, recovery expectations and long-term care needs
Participate in inpatient consultations, outpatient clinics, operative care, and call coverage as required by the practice
Provide burn, hand and wound care education and outreach for physicians, nurses, emergency medical services, first responders, referring facilities and community partners.
Required Qualifications
Education:
MD/DO from an accredited medical school
Required:
General Surgeon with Certificate of Added Qualifications – Hands OR Board Certification/Board Eligible in Plastic Surgery
At least two years of experience in extremity/hand care
Eligible for an unrestricted Mississippi medical license
Eligible for hospital credentialing
Must obtain ABLS within one (1) year
Preferred:
Fellowship-trained in hand surgery or experience in the management of patients with extremity injuries
Fellowship-trained in burn surgery or experience in the management of burn patients.
