About QVS
Our vision is a world where all pets, and those who care for them, receive the support they need to enjoy a fulfilling life.
Queensland Veterinary Specialists (QVS) is Australia’s first privately established veterinary specialist hospital, founded in Brisbane in 1982. Today we provide specialist-led care 24/7 across South East Queensland, with hospitals at Stafford, North Lakes and the Sunshine Coast.
We are a values-led group committed to compassionate, progressive and evidence-based care that supports the animal–human bond. Our specialists, emergency veterinarians, nurses, technicians and support professionals work side by side, and that collaboration is at the heart of how we practise.
Our multidisciplinary team spans internal medicine, surgery, emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging, anaesthesia, oncology, dermatology, ophthalmology, dentistry and theriogenology, with continued investment in new services, clinical capability and training pathways.
About Brisbane and South East Queensland
Brisbane offers specialists genuine career opportunity without compromising quality of life. Queensland’s capital combines a warm, relaxed climate with short commutes, excellent schools, and vibrant dining and cultural precincts.
With the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, hinterland, beaches and rainforests all within easy reach, South East Queensland offers a rare balance of professional growth, family-friendly living and an outdoor lifestyle.
The Opportunity
QVS is launching a dedicated cardiology service, and we are looking for a board-qualified Specialist or board-eligible Registrar in Small Animal Cardiology to help build it from the ground up.
This is a rare chance to shape a new service within an established specialist hospital group. You will arrive to a strong internal referral base and a multidisciplinary team across medicine, surgery, emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging and anaesthesia, all ready to work with you on complex cases.
QVS is committed to growing a team of cardiologists. Beyond clinical work, you will have real influence over recruitment and team growth (including the cardiology nursing team), service workflows and clinical standards, the referring vet experience, and the design of intern and residency training programs for the service.
Why QVS?
- A values-driven, high-performance culture that creates a collaborative, supportive and enjoyable place to work
- The chance to build and lead a new cardiology service with the backing of an established hospital group
- Market-leading remuneration and benefits, including a pathway to equity
- Up to 8 weeks’ paid leave for those preparing to sit board examinations
- Generous continuing education allowance to invest in your professional development
- Relocation assistance for interstate and overseas candidates
- Visa sponsorship for suitably qualified overseas applicants, with a pathway to permanent residency
- Paid parental leave, employee discounts and a calendar of social events
About You
To be considered, you will be either:
- A board-qualified Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology; or
- A Registrar who has completed an accredited residency and is eligible to sit board examinations
Relevant qualifications include Fellowship of the ANZCVS, Diplomate of the ACVIM (Cardiology) or ECVIM-CA (Cardiology), or equivalent specialist credentials. Leadership and management experience is highly regarded.
Applicants must be able to register as a veterinarian in Queensland. See the AVBC registration guidance for more information.
