Position Summary:
The College of Veterinary Medicine is recruiting a Registered Veterinary Technician to support the teaching mission within the Veterinary Clinical Skills Program. The primary purpose of this position is to promote and support education of veterinary students in clinical simulation laboratories. This position performs a wide variety of instructional and managerial duties for the Clinical Skills Program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Instruct & Supervise: Assist Clinical Skills faculty in instructing and supervising veterinary students during laboratory sessions in the pre-clinical curriculum (Years 1-3).
- Lab Preparation & Execution: Prepare, set up, and conduct clinical skills laboratories, ensuring all materials, models, and specimens are ready for instruction.
- Demonstration & Coaching: Demonstrate clinical procedures and techniques using simulations and live animals, providing skill-based coaching and constructive feedback to students.
- Assessment Support: Set up and assist in administering Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).
- Lab & Equipment Stewardship: Maintain all teaching laboratories, equipment, and storage areas to a high standard of organization, cleanliness, and operational readiness.
- Curriculum Delivery: Utilize diverse teaching tools-including simulation models, anatomic specimens, and live animals-to train students in clinical skills across principal veterinary species (e.g., dogs, cats, horses, livestock).
- Asset Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of teaching assets, including the inventory, maintenance, repair, and sterilization of simulation models and surgical equipment.
- Supply Chain Coordination: Facilitate the procurement, receipt, and organization of all laboratory equipment, supplies, and consumables.
- Collaboration: Cultivate effective, collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders in support of the A-State CVM mission.
- Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Animal Handling & Safety: Proficiency in handling, restraining, and working safely with dogs, cats, horses, cattle, and small ruminants. Knowledge of standard veterinary safety and restraint protocols. Ability to obtain certification from the Arkansas Board of Animal Health.
Clinical & Laboratory Practice: Working knowledge of aseptic technique and clinical procedures. Assist with oversight of instructional models, including storage, maintenance, setup, and takedown, ensuring they are fully functional for lab sessions.
Physical & Operational Capacity: Ability to push, pull, and lift items weighing up to 70 lb (32 kg). Possess a valid driver's license and ability to operate a vehicle within the state of Arkansas.
Administrative Competence: Foundational knowledge of basic accounting principles. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Office Suite applications.
Professional Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong critical thinking and organizational abilities. Capacity to multitask effectively in a dynamic academic team centered environment.

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:
Registered/Licensed veterinary technician (RVT)
Preferred Qualification:
RVT plus at least two years' experience
An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.
