About Windhorse
Windhorse Equine Learning is a nonprofit organization in Bozeman, Montana, that provides equine-assisted learning experiences to youth ages 8-18. Windhorse programs teach social emotional skills, horsemanship and riding, building confidence and resilience through the horse/human bond.
Position Summary
Windhorse is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Development Director to lead our fundraising efforts. This role will focus on donor engagement, major gifts cultivation, and securing the financial resources needed to sustain and grow our mission. The Development Director will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to build and execute a fundraising strategy that ensures long-term financial stability.
This opportunity is a rare one for the seasoned development professional. With a flexible, part-time schedule, the right candidate will work in an environment full of purpose, while still having time for their own personal endeavors.
Windhorse is currently in an exciting period of growth. We are wrapping up a capital campaign to purchase our leased property and will be embarking on a campaign to expand our facilities and our programs. This position will be a key partner in ensuring that Windhorse youth empowerment programs can meet the mental health needs of kids in our community far into the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet and exceed revenue goals.
- Identify, cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
- Develop compelling proposals, donor communications, and stewardship strategies.
- Plan and support fundraising events, campaigns, and other donor engagement activities.
- Manage Windhorse’s donor database.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board to identify and implement new funding opportunities.
- Expand Windhorse’s overall development capacity by providing support and coaching to the Executive Director and Board.
- Manage one part-time development staff position.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, major gifts, or development.
- Proven ability to build relationships and secure significant gifts from individuals and organizations.
- Strong communication and storytelling skills with the ability to inspire donors.
- Self-motivated, results-driven, and comfortable with donor outreach.
- Experience using donor databases and CRM tools preferred.
- Passion for the mission of Windhorse and a commitment to enhancing the lives of Bozeman’s youth through experiential learning with horses.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Annual salary range $65,000-$75,000 DOE
- Average 30 hours per week
