Position Summary

The University of Georgia School of Law Director of Bar Passage will provide strategic leadership for the School of Law's bar success initiatives, working collaboratively with students, faculty, administrators, and external partners to promote strong bar examination outcomes and student success.

This position combines teaching and administration, with an allocation of effort of 40% instruction and 60% administration. The Director will oversee existing bar success programs, develop innovative initiatives to support student achievement, monitor developments related to the NextGen Bar Exam, and serve as the law school's primary resource on bar passage trends, preparedness, and outcomes.

Additional Requirements

• Current admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and demonstrated knowledge of legal principles and professional licensure requirements.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

• Significant legal practice background beyond judicial clerkships.
• Background in higher education counseling, advising, teaching, academic support, student success, bar preparation, or a closely related area supporting law students.

• Demonstrated record of working collaboratively with various groups of stakeholders.
• Ability to use data-informed approaches to identify and support students who may be at risk academically or with respect to bar passage.

Administration

The Director serves as the law school's lead administrator for bar passage and student success initiatives. Responsibilities include:

Student Success and Bar Support

• Develop, implement, and assess bar success programming for students and graduates.
• Provide individualized academic counseling, bar coaching, and intervention strategies for at-risk students.
• Develop remediation plans for unsuccessful bar applicants and track student engagement and outcomes.

Data Analysis and Assessment

• Analyze academic and bar performance data to identify trends, risk factors, and intervention opportunities.
• Track bar passage outcomes and prepare reports for leadership, accreditation, and strategic planning.
• Evaluate program effectiveness and implement data-informed improvements.
• Provide data for various reporting requirements ( ABA , US News, etc.)

NextGen Bar Exam Leadership

• Serve as the School of Law's resource on bar exam changes and implications for curriculum and student success.
• Monitor and report on the NextGen Bar Exam developments and emerging best practices in bar preparation.
• Lead implementation of curricular and programmatic changes related to evolving licensure requirements.

Program Development and Collaboration

• Enhance existing bar passage initiatives and develop innovative programs to support student and graduate success.
• Oversee bar preparation funding and resources.
• Collaborate with faculty, admissions, student affairs, career development, and external organizations to advance bar readiness and student success.

Duties/Responsibilities

Instruction

The Director of Bar Passage will teach courses and programs that support students' development of legal analysis, legal reasoning, and bar examination readiness. Teaching responsibilities include:

• Teaching courses such as Advanced Legal Methods, Transferring Legal Skills, and other academic success or bar-readiness courses as assigned up to 12 credit hours per year.
• Delivering instruction through a combination of traditional, asynchronous and in one-on-one modes.
• Designing and updating curriculum that aligns with current bar examination requirements and emerging NextGen Bar Exam competencies.
• Providing meaningful feedback to students regarding academic performance, legal reasoning, writing, and bar readiness.
• Collaborating with faculty to integrate bar-related competencies and skills development throughout the Law School curriculum.
• Developing workshops, supplemental programming, and educational resources focused on academic success, legal skills development, and bar preparation.
