Description
Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, Oklahoma’s leading professional theatre, seeks a Director of Development/Capital Campaign (DoDCC) to design, implement, and manage comprehensive fundraising strategies for Lyric Theatre, The Official State Theatre of Oklahoma.
The DoDCC is responsible for $2.5M plus in annual revenue raised through individual giving, corporate, foundation, government, and special events. And, a 3-4 year $10-$15M Capital Campaign. The successful candidate will work with the Executive Team, Board Development Committee, and Capital Campaign Consultant to devise and implement a Campaign in support of Lyric’s plan to renovate facilities that are key to the theatre mainstage, and education programs.
The ideal candidate will be a fierce, highly motivated individual with front-line fundraising experience and a track record of creating successful fundraising campaigns. The new DoDCC will have the opportunity to craft a development team in support of the department’s fundraising goals. Preferred position requirements include five or more years of fundraising experience for a non-profit organization, three years in a leadership/management position, and a bachelor's degree in non-profit management, arts management, business, or related field.
Founded in 1963, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization producing classic to contemporary musicals and plays created by artists from Oklahoma and around the nation. Lyric's offices are in the dynamic, historic Plaza District near downtown Oklahoma City. To promote comradery, creativity, and love of the theatre, employees are expected to work in person in the office, with one work-at-home day each week.
Requirements
- With the senior leadership of Lyric Theatre, establish and execute a strategic vision and comprehensive development plan supporting the current and long-term operating and capital needs of Lyric.
- Aggressively lead and direct the implementation of Lyric’s fundraising. Key initiatives include the ongoing identification and cultivation of individual and corporate donors, with a particular focus on accessing new constituencies and major gift development and an emphasis on the effective stewardship of donors.
- Execute a $10-$15M Capital Campaign with the support of an external Capital Campaign Consultant and in-house Capital Campaign Manager
- Provide guidance, prepare, and coach the Capital Campaign Committee team when appropriate and make solicitations where needed.
- Work with Lyric’s senior leadership to motivate and strengthen the Board in its role in development; expand, manage, and coordinate the trustees’ and other volunteers’ involvement in fundraising activities; take an active role in serving and supporting the Board, Development Committee, and other Board committees.
- Supervise and manage the research, writing, and preparation of all foundation and government grant proposals. Oversee grant administration and reporting requirements.
- As a representative of Lyric Theatre, take an active role in the community and cultivate key relationships and associations with centers of influence within the city, state, and region.
- Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure goals are being achieved.
- Create and monitor income and expense budgets for the development department.
- Manage and supervise development department staff through strong, supportive, and consistent leadership.
- Establish department goals and conduct regular staff performance evaluations.
- Foster an understanding of philanthropy within the organization.
- Oversee the design, printing, and distribution of marketing materials for development efforts.
- Maintain Lyric’s sponsorship recognition and benefits program.
- Work collaboratively with Lyric’s Director of Marketing to appropriately position development opportunities and integrate messages in publications and other collateral materials.
- Work collaboratively with staff members to identify support for programs/projects.
- Manage Lyric’s donor CRM system and oversee development staff responsible for data entry and gift processing.
- Work closely with staff, trustees, and other volunteers to maximize the effectiveness of Lyric’s special events which range from small cultivation events to an annual gala.
- Manage and build Lyric’s planned giving program.
- Additional duties, responsibilities, and projects as needed.
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, arts management, or a related field; CFRE certification is a plus.
- Have 5+ years of development experience working for a non-profit organization, preferably a professional theatre or arts organization.
- This position requires some off-peak hours for evening meetings and events. Must be able to appear at evening performances to meet-n-greet Lyric patrons/donors.
