REPORTS TO: CEO
POSITION STATUS: Exempt-Full-time-40 hours per week
SALARY: $115,000-$125,000
CONSIDERATIONS: 100% On-site position, not eligible for remote work

ALAS is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting Latino farmworkers, families, and the broader Coastside community through culturally responsive services, advocacy, and community empowerment. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The ALAS Farmworker Program empowers farmworkers and their families through culturally responsive services that promote health, stability, and belonging. We provide outreach, advocacy, health and wellness support, resource navigation, education, and cultural arts programming while building trusted community partnerships that reduce barriers and create opportunities for families to thrive
POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
This is one of the most important leadership roles at ALAS. We are looking for someone who can strengthen and lead our beloved Farmworker Department during a pivotal moment in our growth. We need an experienced director, strong manager, and a deep relational leader who knows how to bring out the best in people while improving upon our signature programs.
We are looking for someone who can support and coach a diverse and brilliant team, create clarity and accountability, clearly articulate impact, strengthen systems, and help shape a department that is becoming a regional and national model for healing, wellness, and community care.
The ideal candidate brings real experience working in Latino and farmworker communities and understands both the beauty and complexity of grassroots work. They know how to build trust with the community, communicate across teams, and lead with both heart and structure.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, supervise, coach, and support the diverse and brilliant Farmworker Programs team
- Build a healthy team culture grounded in joy, communication, and purpose, while ensuring staff feel supported, clear on expectations, and proud of their work.
- Conduct regular 1:1 meetings, performance evaluations, and ongoing professional development support.
- Model healthy communication, emotional maturity, and the belief that conflict can be navigated with honesty, care, and loving kindness.
- Help staff grow into stronger leaders by creating opportunities for ownership, leadership development, and growth.
- Cultivate sustainability and holistic wellness within a high-demand environment.
- Strengthen communication, coordination, and collaboration across programs and departments.
Programmatic Excellence
- Ensure programs are culturally rooted, impactful, and held to the highest level of excellence
- Navigate crisis, complexity, and high-pressure situations with maturity and strong judgment
- Lead the expansion of Farmworker Programs into Monterey County
- Help staff and community define clear metrics for success and impact
- Strengthening systems, communication, coordination, and daily operations
- Track community impact, program goals, data, and reporting
- Ensure grants, compliance, and deliverables are completed on time
- Partner with Finance and Development departments to manage budgets
Smart Growth & Statewide Strategy
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to ALAS leadership during a critical season of organizational growth
- Support the continued expansion and infrastructure development of ALAS’s new Salinas site in partnership with leadership and staff.
- Strengthen cross-site coordination and relationship building to ensure the Salinas expansion remains rooted in ALAS values, culture, and community-centered practices.
- Help identify emerging community needs, opportunities, partnerships, and long-term strategies for real sustainability.
- Help ALAS meet the moment, while growing at a smart pace that mitigates burnout.
Community Leadership & Partnerships
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with farmworker families, community leaders, schools, clinics, and partner organizations
- Represent ALAS in local, regional, and statewide spaces through presentations, convenings, advocacy efforts, and community partnerships.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, political leaders, funders, and key stakeholders.
- Stay connected to local and statewide conversations impacting immigrant and farmworker communities.
- Help share and elevate the story, impact, and vision of ALAS’s Farmworker Department and broader model of healing and community care.
- Help us think bigger and outside of the box while always staying grounded in our why.
Storytelling & Impact
- Clearly articulate the impact of our work through storytelling, data, and community voice
- Help strengthen presentations, reports, fundraising materials, and department communications
- Work closely with Communications and Development teams to ensure the truth and beauty of this powerful work is visible
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Programmatic Experience: At least 7–10 years of experience leading programs, teams, or departments in nonprofit and or grassroots organizations. Must bring experience with grant reporting, budgets, data tracking, operations, and supervising community-based staff or promoters.
- Bilingual, Bicultural, & Values Driven. Must be Fluent in Spanish and English, with a deep cultural understanding of Latino and immigrant communities. Able to move across diverse spaces with humility, warmth, professionalism, and care. ALAS is a deeply relational organization, and values are everything to us.
