DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRIES
First Presbyterian Church

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Music Ministries will provide creative, pastoral, and visionary leadership for a vibrant and growing music ministry that inspires worship, fosters community, and nurtures spiritual growth across generations.
Responsibilities include:
Planning and leading music for weekly worship services, including the 8:45 AM Early Light, non-traditional, Service and 11:00 AM, traditional, Sanctuary Service, as well as special services throughout the Christian year such as Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Easter, and Evensong services
Serving as organist and/or pianist as appropriate to support worship, memorial services, and special congregational events
Directing the Chancel Choir (Adult SATB Choir) and cultivating a culture of musical excellence, spiritual connection, and joyful participation
Providing leadership for a comprehensive music ministry that may include children’s choirs, youth choirs, adult ensembles, handbells, and intergenerational music opportunities
Encouraging and equipping people of all ages and musical backgrounds to engage in worship and faith formation through music and the arts
Collaborating with clergy and staff to create meaningful, creative, and theologically grounded worship experiences
Overseeing the administration of the music ministry, including music resources, instrument care, worship planning coordination, and stewardship of the music budget
Building strong relationships within the congregation and helping create a welcoming and inclusive environment where music becomes a central part of the church’s spiritual life
Partnering with the Director of First Presbyterian Day School to support chapel worship and cultivate meaningful musical experiences for students throughout the school year
POSITION STATUS & COMPENSATION
Full-time exempt position averaging approximately 40 hours per week.
Compensation includes:
Annual salary of $60,000
Full benefits package in accordance with church personnel policies
$500 annual professional reimbursement allotment
$1,000 annual continuing education/professional development fund, which may be used for conferences, workshops, certifications, retreats, professional memberships, or other approved growth opportunities
Four weeks of paid annual vacation, in addition to continuing education leave
Requirements
COLLABORATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS
Participate in weekly staff meetings, worship planning meetings, and Worship Committee meetings
Collaborate closely with clergy, staff, and volunteers to support meaningful worship and church events
Coordinate worship materials, including bulletins and slides, with church staff
Maintain clear communication and provide advance notice for vacation or planned absences
Help foster a positive, welcoming, and collaborative staff culture
SUPERVISION AND MINISTRY EXPECTATIONS
The Director of Music Ministries reports to the Senior Pastor/Head of Staff and works closely with church staff, volunteers, and ministry leaders.
