Job Summary:
Provides strategic leadership for the planning, development, and modernization of the electric grid. This role oversees capital project evaluation and funding, guiding feasibility analyses and investment strategies that support long term infrastructure goals and leads the design and implementation of renewable energy customer programs and new grid services that enable system reliability and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Directs proactive capital planning, including feasibility assessments, cost estimates, and funding strategies aligned with infrastructure needs to anticipate future demand and energy resource expansion aligned with longterm grid investments with applicable federal and local energy policies, including Integrated Resource Planning requirements.
- Establishes frameworks that accelerate approval and construction of new transmission and distribution lines, streamlining permitting processes.
Advances digitalization and intelligent operations to optimize asset performance. - Develops and implements new grid services that support system modernization and grid development including the design of renewableenergy customer programs.
- Oversees DER interconnection studies—including load flow, short circuits, motor start, and hostingcapacity analyses—producing highquality reports that inform regulatory decisions and customer outcomes.
- Leads crossfunctional teams in delivering comprehensive interconnection studies for utilityscale generation, renewable energy, and energystorage projects, ensuring safe and reliable integration through Feasibility, System Impact, and Facility Studies.
- Represents the organization in stakeholder and regulatory forums (DOE, FEMA, PREB, industry committees), advancing DER and renewableintegration initiatives and strengthening alignment with external partners.
- Develops and executes departmental strategies aligned with organizational goals and longterm vision, driving operational excellence and futurefocused planning initiatives.
- Fosters a highperformance culture by mentoring leaders, enhancing organizational effectiveness, and championing crossfunctional collaboration to support innovation and process improvement.
- Leads budget planning, forecasting, and highlevel resource allocation, aligning financial strategies with longterm business goals.
- Establishes performance frameworks and integrates KPIs into planning processes, improving visibility into operational effectiveness and enabling datadriven decisionmaking.
- Champions and models enterprise-wide adherence to governance, compliance, and ethical standards to uphold organizational integrity and regulatory alignment.
- Leads and supports organizational strategies for the restoration of critical services and emergency preparedness to ensure business continuity and community trust.
- Embraces and leads additional strategic responsibilities as needed to advance enterprise objectives and organizational resilience
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience:
- 10 years' experience in Utility Environment with focus on Transmission and Distribution modeling, Transmission and Distribution planning, DER/Renewable Integration, with responsibilities of planning, budgeting, and at least 5 years' of progressive experience in a leadership or management roles overseeing multiple departments and/or functional areas.
- Additional education may substitute for the required experience when it aligns with the competencies and knowledge necessary for the role:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field may substitute when accompanied by a minimum of 8 years of experience performing related functions and at least 4 years of progressive experience in a leadership or management roles overseeing multiple departments and/or functional areas.
- Experience in renewable energy projects is preferred.
- Experience in Transmission, preferably within a utility’s transmission planning team, is preferred
- Experience in budget planning, development and effective administration.
Competencies (Skills):
- Strong technical knowledge in power flow analysis (preferably Power System Simulator for Engineering), DER interconnection processes, microgrids, and energy storage.
- Strong familiarity with applicable Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards.
Strong business knowledge of the utility and regulated environment. - Working knowledge of Operations groups and their daytoday challenges.
- Proven experience applying sound judgment to make effective decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including customer interaction and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach and support professionals and field employees.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, preferably in English and Spanish.
- Strong ability to develop and deliver effective presentations and facilitate meetings as related to strategy, training, and collaborating with various stakeholders.
- A solid knowledge of Microsoft Office PC applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee designation in Puerto Rico is preferred.
Travel Requirements:
- 20%
