THE ACCOUNTING TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OVERSEEING THE OVERALL FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING AND REPORTING ACTIVITIES OF MIZUHO BANK SEOUL BRANCH. THE TEAM PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN ENSURING ACCURATE AND TIMELY FINANCIAL CLOSING AND REPORTING, TAX COMPLIANCE, AND ADHERENCE TO K-IFRS AS WELL AS LOCAL AND GLOBAL REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS.
Job Responsibilities
Role Summary
The Head of Accounting leads the bank's financial reporting, accounting operations, tax compliance, and internal control activities within the Financial Reporting & Accounting department. This role ensures accurate and timely financial statements, regulatory reporting, and tax filings in line with Korean International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS), Japanese Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (J-GAAP), and applicable banking regulations. By strengthening control, compliance, and team performance, the role supports sound financial governance and business growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead the daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Prepare, review, and approve financial statements under K-IFRS and J-GAAP.
- Oversee financial reporting to Head Office (HO), the Asia-Pacific (APAC) office, local authorities, and internal management.
- Manage corporate tax, education tax, and other tax filings in line with Korean and global tax regulations.
- Review tax adjustments and coordinate reporting with Head Office and local tax offices.
- Respond to audits and reviews from the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), Bank of Korea (BOK), tax offices, and internal and external auditors, including Ernst & Young (E&Y).
- Operate, evaluate, and improve the internal accounting control system to strengthen compliance and risk management.
- Update accounting policies and procedures to reflect changes in regulations and Head Office requirements.
- Partner with business teams and Head Office to improve accounting processes and support business decisions.
- Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team through clear task allocation, performance management, and capability building.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax, finance, or a related field.
- Deep knowledge of K-IFRS, J-GAAP, banking regulations, financial taxation, and accounting systems.
- Strong experience in bank accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance, and regulatory reporting.
- Proven ability to manage financial close, audit preparation, and internal control processes.
- Leadership skills to guide teams, set priorities, and improve team performance.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across internal teams, Head Office, auditors, and regulators.
- Detail-oriented, self-directed, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
- Unrestricted authorization to work in Korea is required.
