Header: The Lake Superior Railroad Museum (LSRM), one of the nation’s leading transportation museums (Trip Advisor; USA Today), is seeking an executive director. Occupying a large campus in Duluth, MN centered at the historic St. Louis County Union Depot (1892), LSRM features a broad collection of railroad rolling stock, locomotives, artifacts, and archives. Operating a seasonal schedule of excursion trains on dedicated tracks along the north shore of Lake Superior, North Shore Scenic Railway (LSRM affiliate) complements the museum experience. Founded in 1973, the LSRM ( http://lsrm.org ) recently celebrated 50 years of dynamic growth and seeks an Executive Director to lead the organization into the future.
Details: The port city of Duluth, MN at the western tip of Lake Superior has been an important link in the nation’s transportation system for 150 years, serving as a transloading point between Great Lakes shipping and rail lines connecting the Midwest and Western US. For over 50 years, the Lake Superior Railroad Museum (LSRM http://lsrm.org ) has worked to preserve this history by assembling a large collection of historic railroad locomotives, rolling stock, artifacts, and documentary archives through the combined efforts of talented volunteers and professional staff. Through its affiliate, North Shore Scenic Railroad (NSSR), the museum offers visitors the opportunity to experience historic railroading by riding excursion trains employing historic locomotives and passenger cars. The LSRM welcomes over 160,000 visitors per year and offers an extensive calendar of special programs. Located at the historic St. Louis County Union Depot, the LSRM is co-located with an extensive county history museum and community arts organizations.
The LSRM now seeks an Executive Director to lead the organization into the future. The executive director will be responsible for the organization’s overall leadership and strategic guidance to achieve its mission. Responsibilities include fundraising, enhancing stakeholder relationships, managing and developing executive staff, the museum’s fiscal health, and overall operations, including the subsidiary North Shore Scenic Railway (NSSR http://duluthtrains.com ). Salary range is $100,000-$110,000 with additional benefits package and performance incentives.
