Description
OverviewApple Mountain Golf Club is hiring a head professional. Not an assistant reporting to a head pro somewhere else, and not a title with a regional director sitting on top of it. The professional. Ours.
We own the club. There is no management company in between. You would report to us, and most days that means the call is yours.
THE GOLF
18 holes in the North Georgia mountains, in Habersham County, about ninety minutes from Atlanta. Roughly 30,000 rounds a year. A driving range we are upgrading right now, with new ball handling and dispensing equipment. A Charter membership program we are building, with members who will know exactly who you are. A new cart fleet, cart barn upgrades, a clubhouse in planning, and a food and beverage program rolling out now. You would have a say in all of it.
WHAT YOU WOULD RUN
Instruction. You teach, and you keep teaching. Lessons, clinics, player development, club fitting. We would rather pay a professional who is on the lesson tee than one who is in an office.
The golf calendar. Leagues, member events, outings, tournaments. Most of it isn't built yet, which means you get to build it instead of inherit it.
The pro shop. Buying, merchandising, and the people in it. An assistant general manager runs the shop, the cart barn and daily play under you, and a course superintendent runs maintenance.
The member experience, first tee to last putt.
The business. This is a head professional's job with a general manager's authority, so the P&L comes with it. If that part is newer to you, say so. We would rather teach the P&L to a real professional than teach golf to a good administrator.
Our weekends are strong. Our weekday middays are wide open. Filling them is the single biggest thing you could do for this club, and how you would do it is the most interesting question in this job.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You need to be in the PGA program. Class A in good standing is great. A PGA Associate enrolled in PGM and working through it counts too. You do not have to have finished.
Someone who has carried a teaching book and can tell us what it did. Lessons given, players developed, juniors or ladies or beginners you brought into the game.
Golf shop and golf operations experience: head professional, first assistant, or a strong number two ready for the top seat.
Merchandising instincts. The shop should make money, not just exist.
Willingness to live in or near Clarkesville and actually be at the club.
COMPENSATION
$85,000-$100,000 base, depending on experience. A performance bonus tied to Charter membership initiations, league, outing and tournament revenue, and profit growth. On target, that puts total compensation around $125,000-$140,000. Health coverage and 401(k).
Beyond that, we would rather build the package around the right person than post a fixed list. Depending on fit, it can include a furnished apartment on site, a share of lesson revenue, and PGA national and section dues, continuing education, and the PGA Show.
TIMING
We are moving now, and we would like our professional in place as soon as we find the right one. We are not hiring to a date. If you are finishing out a season and cannot move right away, tell us. We would rather wait for the right professional than fill the seat on a calendar. One thing worth knowing either way: whoever takes this job helps hire their own team, so the earlier you are here, the more of that team is yours.
TO APPLY
Send your resume and a short note (not a cover letter, just a note) telling us about the best golf program you ever built and what it did for the club, to management@applemountainresortga.com. That's the whole application, and we read every one.
