Position: Hockey Director (full-time/non-exempt)
Hiring Salary Range: $52,674 - $64,236
Full Salary Range: $52,674 - $75,799

The Hockey Director position is responsible for overseeing and developing, maintaining and running all aspects of Adult Recreational Hockey including promotion, scheduling, registration, and tournaments. This position requires working evening and weekend shifts and being on-call for emergencies.
Job Duties:
- Manage all aspects of the in-house adult hockey leagues, including planning, programming, recruitment, development, on-site administration and wrap up of all programs, events and related activities.
- Assist with managing the operations and maintenance of the facility, ensuring facility rules and safety standards. Will assist in emergency situations such as evacuations, medical emergencies, suspicious behavior or activity, etc.
- Organizes all in-house tournaments, camps, instructional clinics, and drop-in hockey programs.
- Work as a liaison with team managers, captains, and referees’ associations.
- Maintain facility schedule for all in-house programs in the Dash computer program as well as Team Sideline.
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate the work of all program part time staff.
- Answer telephone; answer a variety of questions regarding programs and classes offered, District inquires, facility operations, rentals, etc.
- Monitor cash handling procedures and ensure compliance; complete cash reports and bank runs.
- Assist with the preparation and monitoring of the budget, manage revenues and expenditures and prepare financial reports. Prepare purchase orders, RFP’s, and invoice requests. Collect and record payments and outstanding balances. Prepare short and long-range revenue/expenditure projections, check revenue streams through POS etc.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and tracking of a marketing strategy; notifying the public of District events, sales, and promotions of merchandise and programs. Work with Marketing department to maintain website with news, pictures, statistics, standings, schedules, and all other pertinent information relative to all hockey programs.
- Responsible for administrative duties as required; particularly in terms of registration, data entry into Community Pass, TeamSideline etc.
- When the Assistant Manager/Operations-Evenings is not in the building, it is the Hockey Director’s responsibility to be acting Manger On Duty. In this role, they are responsible for running all aspects of the Assistant Manager/Operations-Evenings duties. This includes, but is not limited to: handling conflicts between patrons, officials, and players during games and practices, helping out/checking in with our kitchen and bar staff, and closing the rink up at the end of the night (locking doors, setting security codes, and doing a “kitchen walk-through” to make sure ovens, stoves, and deep fryers are turned off).
- Develop and maintain relationships with District employees, vendors, various outside user groups and associations to coordinate their programs, tournaments, special events and league play.
- Assist with policy enforcement and procedural manuals; conduct periodic staff meetings to provide and gather information, answer questions and respond to complaints and concerns, both internally and externally.
- Provide a variety of general information to the public regarding parks and recreation operations and programs; respond to questions, resolve complaints, and survey patrons as needed.
- Observe necessary precautions to assure general public safety; inspect facilities for safety and maintenance needs.
- Recognize emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly and calmly; administer first aid as needed. Completes Accident/Incident report.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of recreational services as well as various skating interests and markets to facilitate off-season utilization.
Requirements
Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a Recreation, Sports Management, or directly related field, two (2) years supervisory experience in hockey programming; or any equivalent combination of acceptable education and years of experience.
- Working knowledge of facility operations, scheduling, and maintenance procedures required.
- Experience in coaching, skating, or hockey preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of employment. Must be insurable by the District carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment.
- Current certifications in AED/CPR and First Aid or the ability to obtain such certifications within sixty (60) days of employment.
- Concussion recognition training is required prior to employment and must be renewed annually.
- Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and general office equipment (computer, copier, phone, etc.). Proficiency with applicable computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, POS) and scheduling/invoicing through Maximum Ice Solutions (MaxIce) and Pointstreak.
- Must have knowledge of ice conditions and experience with the proper use of ice maintenance equipment used in an ice arena environment including an ice resurfacer, ice edger, computers and refrigeration mechanical operation log book. Must be able to interpret refrigeration plant maintenance readings and logs for preventative maintenance.
- Must also have knowledge on Skate Sharpening and Skate Repairs.
- Possess knowledge and ability to identify and direct ongoing maintenance, repairs, and improvements to the arena and equipment used at the building.
