Position Summary
The Managing Attorney serves as the operational and professional leader of Equinox's Client Services Department.
This individual is responsible for the overall success of client service delivery, including legal quality, client experience, attorney development, project management integration, resource planning, contractor oversight, utilization management, profitability, capacity planning, and continuous improvement.
The primary role of the Managing Attorney is leadership and management of the Client Services team, both employees and contractors, to assure they are working on the right projects and tasks based on skills, experience, and level to meet target metrics and assuring high quality work product. In addition, the Managing Attorney will perform direct client facing work with a target of 50% utilized in this area.
The Managing Attorney works closely with the Visionary, Integrator, and Operations team to ensure that Equinox delivers exceptional client outcomes while building a scalable and profitable business model.
While this position maintains a limited client portfolio, success is measured primarily through the performance, effectiveness, and growth of the Client Services organization.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Client Service Delivery Leadership
- Lead the overall Client Services function.
- Ensure legal services are delivered consistently, efficiently, and in alignment with client expectations.
- Monitor client satisfaction and identify opportunities to improve the client experience.
- Partner with sales, legal, project management, and operations teams to create a seamless client journey.
- Serve as a strategic advisor on complex client matters and high-value client relationships.
- Champion Equinox's Business First philosophy in all client interactions.
People Leadership, Coaching, and Accountability
- Lead, mentor, and develop attorneys, paralegals, project management professionals, and contractors.
- Establish clear expectations and performance standards.
- Conduct regular coaching, feedback, and development discussions.
- Create career development pathways and training initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, and excellence.
- Address performance concerns promptly and constructively.
- Build future leaders within the organization.
Capacity Planning and Resource Management
- Own team capacity planning and workload balancing.
- Evaluate staffing needs and hiring priorities.
- Ensure work is assigned to the team member best equipped to deliver value while maintaining efficiency and profitability.
- Manage client services team members’ utilization, earned value, matter profitability, and service delivery metrics.
- Monitor bottlenecks, workload imbalances, and growth constraints.
- Lead project management to proactively allocate resources and forecast future needs.
Contractor and Vendor Management
- Recruit, onboard, manage, and evaluate contract attorneys and legal professionals.
- Develop scalable contractor utilization models.
- Establish performance expectations and quality standards.
- Assess capacity requirements and determine when contractor support is appropriate.
- Ensure outside resources align with Equinox service standards and culture.
Project Management
- Lead project management to ensure projects remain on time, on budget, and properly scoped.
- Support the continued evolution of legal project management systems and workflows.
- Monitor service delivery metrics and project health indicators.
- Participate in development of dashboards, reporting, and visibility systems.
- Continuously refine processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and client outcomes.
Quality and Risk Management
- Establish and enforce legal quality standards.
- Conduct quality reviews and provide substantive feedback.
- Identify training opportunities based on recurring issues or quality trends.
- Promote consistency in legal work product, client communication, and service delivery.
- Support development of templates, knowledge management tools, and best practices.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and client delivery models.
- Champion technology adoption and process innovation.
- Support implementation of AI, automation, and legal operations tools where appropriate.
- Use data and metrics to drive better decisions and better client outcomes.
- Foster a culture of learning, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
Leadership Team Participation
- Serve as a member of the Leadership Team.
- Contribute to strategic planning, annual goals, and EOS initiatives.
- Help align Client Services with overall firm objectives.
- Participate in departmental planning, organizational design, and growth initiatives.
- Model leadership behaviors consistent with Equinox culture and values.

Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active Washington State Bar license preferred.
- 10+ years practicing business law specifically in the areas of corporate governance, contracts, and employment.
- 5+ years leading attorneys and professional service teams.
- Demonstrated experience managing people, capacity, and resources.
- Experience with legal operations, project management, or professional services management.
- Strong understanding of business financial metrics, including utilization, profitability, leverage, and budgeting.
- Experience working with technology platforms, workflow tools, and process improvement initiatives.
- Strong communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
This position operates in a professional, collaborative, and fast-paced environment. This is not a traditional law firm management position. The Managing Attorney and Director of Client Service Delivery serves as a key leader in building a scalable, client-focused, technology-enabled professional services organization.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $175,000-$210,000 annually, depending on experience, leadership background, demonstrated operational excellence, business development capabilities, and overall fit.
Bonus: Profit sharing bonus based on achievement of firm-wide metrics
Location: Seattle metro area; hybrid work environment
