Description
The primary purpose of this position is to provide quality, therapeutic intervention services to school-aged students who are presenting with delays or difficulties with strength, mobility, balance, safety and function to access and participate in their school. PT services are provided to students who have a documented motor impairment and who are determined eligible for services through the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process. This position will provide quality, discipline-specific treatment for students with developmental delays, various abilities and differences. The School Based Physical Therapist will evaluate students, develop and monitor individualized goals and plans according to their IEPs. The School Based Physical Therapist will administer standardized assessments while providing IEP team/parent education and support.
Requirements
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Possess a clinical knowledge of gross motor skills, gait, strength, range of motion, safety, balance, overall development, and special education needs.
Provide comprehensive assessment of students’ gross motor skills as well as strengths, weaknesses, and needs related to their ability to access and participate their school environment and education.
Participate as a specialist in the area of gross motor skills as well as strengths, weaknesses, and needs related to their ability to participate in school activities to help the IEP team determine eligibility.
Provide direct therapeutic and consultative services and in the areas the student may have difficulty with as a result of the impairments related to PT.
Manage caseload demands including managing multiple schools, deadlines, priorities, and timelines.
Complete treatment notes, time record keeping and progress reports in a timely manner according to school policy and company billing policies.
Manage a detailed log of service provided and services missed due to student or therapist absences.
Prepare records and reports for eligibility evaluations, services IEP/IFSP and transitions according to program procedures or as directed.
Adhere to special education rules, regulations, procedures and timelines of the special education code.
Monitor progress using observation, data collection, standardized assessment(s) and function based assessment(s).
Ensure evaluations, treatment plans and service delivery are aligned with school, state, and federal guidelines. Demonstrate knowledge of current best practices in the area of physical therapy and stay up to date with current best practices.
