Job Description:
Marietta College seeks a strategic, student-centered leader to serve as Senior Director of Career Development and Experiential Education. This full-time, 12-month position provides leadership for the College's integrated approach to career development, experiential learning, employer engagement, and career outcomes.
The Senior Director will help students connect their liberal arts education, strengths, values, and experiences to meaningful career pathways and lives after college. The successful candidate will lead career coaching, faculty partnerships, internship and experiential learning initiatives, employer and alumni engagement, career readiness programming, responsible use of career-related technologies, and outcomes assessment. This position supervises the Assistant Director for Experiential Education and collaborates broadly with faculty, staff, alumni, employers, graduate schools, and community partners.
The Senior Director will join a collaborative campus community committed to student success, the value of the liberal arts, and preparation for meaningful work and lifelong learning. The position requires initiative, creativity, sound judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively with students, alumni, faculty, staff, employers, families, and external partners. Some evening and weekend work is required for campus events, employer programs, alumni activities, orientation, Family Weekend, Homecoming, trustee or donor-related events, and Commencement.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Provide strategic leadership for career development and experiential education in alignment with Marietta College's mission, academic priorities, liberal arts values, and student-success goals.
- Provide individualized career coaching for students and alumni, including career exploration, résumé and cover letter development, interview preparation, networking, job and internship searches, graduate school planning, and long-term career success.
- Partner with faculty and academic departments to connect academic learning with career development, professional preparation, internships, experiential learning, and post-graduation planning.
- Build and maintain relationships with employers, alumni, graduate schools, nonprofit organizations, and community partners to expand internship, employment, mentoring, networking, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Design and deliver career readiness programs, workshops, classroom presentations, employer events, career fairs, networking opportunities, and professional development experiences.
- Help students understand labor-market trends, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and the future of work, including responsible and authentic use of AI tools in career exploration and job-search preparation.
- Oversee career outcomes assessment, including First Destination results, employment outcomes, graduate school placement, internship participation, employer engagement, student use of career services, and experiential learning participation.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Assistant Director for Experiential Education and provide leadership for student employees, peer mentors, interns, and other program contributors.
- Manage office operations, communications, budgets, technology platforms, appointment systems, employer databases, online career resources, and related policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with campus partners across Academic Affairs, Student Life, Alumni Engagement, Advancement, Admissions, Athletics, accessibility services, academic support, and other areas to support students holistically.
Requirements
- Master's degree required in higher education, student affairs, counseling, human resources, business, communication, leadership, education, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in career development, experiential education, student affairs, academic affairs, employer relations, alumni engagement, workforce development, or a related field.
- Experience supervising professional staff, graduate assistants, student employees, peer mentors, interns, or project teams required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of career development, career readiness, internships, experiential learning, employer engagement, alumni networking, graduate school preparation, and student coaching.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, presentation, facilitation, organizational, project management, and data-informed decision-making skills.
- Experience developing partnerships with employers, alumni, faculty, graduate schools, community organizations, or external stakeholders strongly preferred.
- Experience with career services technology, internship management systems, appointment systems, employer databases, assessment, outcomes reporting, or institutional data systems preferred.
