Lead the Future of Physician Enterprise Leadership
St. Joseph's/Candler Health System is seeking a dynamic, relationship-focused executive to serve as its next Vice President, Medical Group Practice. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, this executive will lead one of coastal Georgia's premier physician enterprises and play a key role in shaping the future of ambulatory care, physician engagement, operational excellence, and strategic growth across the health system.
Serving Savannah, coastal Georgia, and South Carolina's Lowcountry, St. Joseph's/Candler is a nationally recognized, faith-based, not-for-profit health system with 714 licensed beds, two flagship hospitals, more than 120 care locations, nationally recognized nursing excellence, expanding Graduate Medical Education programs, and a growing physician network.
St. Joseph’s/Candler of Savannah, Georgia is a national Magnet-designated facility for nursing excellence, with a focus on the latest technologies and research. Its comprehensive network includes centers of excellence for oncology, cardiovascular, neurosciences, women’s and children’s services, orthopedics and a variety of other disease specialties. SJ/C's Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion is one of only 16 original health systems selected as part of the National Cancer Institute's Community Cancer Centers Program, bringing the latest clinical trials and treatments to local communities. Comprised of two of the oldest continuously operating hospitals in the United States, St. Joseph’s Hospital (1875) and Candler Hospital (1804), this not-for-profit health system serves 33 counties in southeast Georgia and the South Carolina Low Country and is the largest and only faith-based institution in the region.
Position Summary
The Vice President of Medical Group Practice provides executive leadership for the St. Joseph's/Candler Physician Network and is responsible for the strategic, operational, financial, and clinical performance of the employed physician enterprise.
Working closely with the CEO, executive leadership team, physician leaders, and hospital administration, this leader will develop and execute strategies that improve:
- Physician engagement and recruitment
- Medical group operations
- Patient access
- Ambulatory growth
- Financial performance
- Practice productivity
- Quality outcomes
- Population health
- Provider satisfaction
- Value-based care initiatives
This executive will also help expand physician partnerships, strengthen referral networks, support Graduate Medical Education growth, and develop innovative ambulatory care strategies across the region.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership for a large multi-specialty physician enterprise.
- Partner with physicians to drive operational excellence and clinical integration.
- Develop strategic growth initiatives, physician recruitment strategies, and new service lines.
- Improve physician productivity, patient access, scheduling, and operational efficiency.
- Lead physician compensation strategy and physician alignment initiatives.
- Collaborate with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management.
- Build business plans supporting ambulatory expansion and physician enterprise growth.
- Support Graduate Medical Education and physician workforce development.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and service excellence.
- Build strategic physician partnerships throughout coastal Georgia and South Carolina.

Experience leading 50+ physician practices within an integrated health system is strongly preferred.

Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive healthcare leadership experience
- 5–7+ years leading physician practice operations
- Demonstrated success managing multi-specialty physician groups
- Strong financial management and physician compensation experience
- Proven physician recruitment and retention success
- Experience working collaboratively with executive leadership and physician governance
